This jigsaw was custom cut for me by Nervous Systems. The original is a mosaic is called The Reef and measures 15.5" x 13.5 inches with a lot of pieces. It was made by Sandra Carson in 1992. The jigsaw puzzle was made from the photo of the original.
Sandra made the mosaics from 3/4-inch pine cut with a scroll saw. Each piece is stained all the way to the bottom of the piece. A few pieces have additional painted details. The example pieces in the photo are from a different mosaic. She no longer makes them.
The original mosaic shows the tray the pieces set in. I have never disassembled any of the mosaics I have. A cover frame with non-glare glass goes over the tray and is locked to the back with nylon turn buttons.
Nervous Systems make very unusual jigsaws. They also make some unusual and beautiful jewelry. Worth a look.
