The objective is to remove the ball from the barrel. The plug can move freely and be removed.
The plug must align with the ball and then be held firmly against the bottom of the barrel by pressing from the exposed end of the plug and the bottom. Then the body of the barrel can be unscrewed from the threaded bottom piece. This is clearly shown in the drawing from Professor Hoffmann's Puzzles Old & New, 1893. | ||
